Metrik Studio is a working association between Erik van Miltenburg and Shannon McLeod, designing and building furniture in Guelph, Ontario. Metrik is also often a teaching studio where the love of hand-crafted furniture is passed onto the next generation of designers. We make every attempt to be full service for our clients, from complex new projects to small repairs required for old pieces. Almost all of our client base is for long term work, doing new pieces every year or two in different parts of each home.
We extend warm thanks to all of our clients who make this work possible and so rewarding.
Erik began the work by apprenticing with a European master cabinetmaker, and continues to be constantly influenced by the Dutch design movement “de Stijl”. He was born in den Haag, Holland, and grew up in a multilingual household in let’s see, about 18 locations in Quebéc and Ontario, Canada. So the passion for household organization (and bookcases) started as self defense, and evolved into a way of life. His work is in daily use in Ireland, the United States, and Canada.
Ideas: from nature, and pillaged from historical example. Motivation: from raising children, and from just loving the work. Downtime: kayaking trips to the north part of Georgian Bay, on the Canadian Shield. Muse: for all else.

She then attended Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning where she was enrolled in a three year course of studies within the School of Crafts and Design concentrating on furniture design and making.
